Day 05 Favourite and least favourite female co-star. (I thought I'd combine bests and worsts to make a proper comparison.)
Least Favourite - Jordana Brewster(Invisible Circus - 2001)
I don't know if it was down to inexperience, miscasting or direction but watching Chris act with Jordana Brewster was excruciatingly painful and made me cringe. I didn't even have to see the whole movie in order to make the judgement call either, three minutes of dialogue was more than enough to prove that they made a grave error in casting Phoebe. Usually Christopher brings out the best in his costars and helps them become better actors because his acting always sparks a reaction out of people but Jordana? Nothing, no reaction whatsoever. It was like she flatlined and Chris was trying in vain to resuscitate her and that was clearly shown in their sex scene. It's a sex scene and still no reaction, no evidence that her character was into it and in turn makes it really hard to believe she's into him. Everything about them together felt off. So to sum it up, Jordana gets the prize for worst co-star. But let's move on and see what happens when every note sings...
Most Favourite Female Co-Star - Billie Piper(Doctor Who 2005)
Now this is how you cast two romantic leads. This is how you capture lightning in a bottle and create something magnificent so that we feel like we're witnessing a once in a lifetime event. Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston had the perfect chemistry matching each other stride for stride. They finally found an actress who was on the same caliber as Chris and shattered preconceptions of what Billie could do as an actress. This was no stunt casting, this was the real deal and together the two of them redefined Doctor Who forever. They could do anything together and the audience would be right there with them and their season together is still the highest rated season of the new series. The numbers don't lie, people were hooked on what Billie and Chris were giving us and we're still left craving more even seven years later. In all of the movies and TV shows that I've seen with Chris, no other actress has been able to match the instant connection these two had. It's in their passion, their energy and their sheer physical magnetism when they're in the same room together. All in all, it was pure magic.
