It appears that Braveheart, one of the formerly feral kittens that Steph stole, is epileptic. His first seizure happened late October right after we came back from the vet. We rushed him right back, they did some bloodwork, and the only odd thing they saw was low potassium levels. He's been getting vitamins almost daily since. The second seizure ( Read more... )

oh man, I feel for you. One of our doggies is epileptic. She just had her first seizure in 2 years a few weeks ago. All you can do is hold them until it's over so they don't hurt themselves. We had to up her pheno so she doesn't have more seizures, I hate drugging her up like that, but she gets really bad ones, and if she has one outside with the other dogs around, that can spell trouble. :(

5am? Shit man, I had been working for 3 hours already! :)

Take care,
-Frank

The seizure actually happened closer to 4:15am, but you'd still have already been working over 2 hours at that time.

The other cats get confused, but not too scared. I'm wondering if they make padded helmets for cats.

I'm taking him in on Thursday to see if there's anything else to be discovered. Apparently epilepsy in cats is even more rare than in dogs. Our vet said that we'll probably have to talk with a specialist for any further care. Who knew people specialized in cat epilepsy?

We had a dog with epilepsy, and eventually it just became a habit to care for her while she had a seizure, but she otherwise lived a long, happy life. I understand the being scared as hell part - the first time, we thought someone had maced her or something.

The first time we were scared shitless. The second time, not so much, though i did suffer nasty clawing and scratches. This time, it was jarring to be awoken, but afterwards, we knew immediately what was going on and just comforted him till he came around.
