"Questioning is a vital part of science. In fact, scientists are more likely to disagree with each other than to agree; the recent debate with regards to climate and hurricane intensity demonstrates this. And I don't consider science to be a religion. Last time I checked not many wars have been wages in the name of science due to self-proclaimed ( Read more... )

Ha! That so needs to be metaquoted. The last line just sells it. :-D

In the thread of science, how do you feel about modern art? (Having just gone on a trip to one such museum.)

What type of modern art? Realism, abstract?

How do you metaquote, anyway?

(I personally see science as a different category than art. Science is the body of knowledge and the process of obtaining knowledge - art is the expression of knowledge. Kind of confuses me as to how they're lumped together. I can understand literature being considered art, but you can express science through art as a medium.)

You know, I should really try to stop being so lazy.

The modern art in the museum I visited was early 20th century, which is more to the side of realism (which I would prefer.)

The reason that art was brought up: the quote was basically supporting science over religion. And, in my experience, people who are very logical and for science and math, end up being very against idealistic things like religion and (abstract) art. (The friend I am thinking of actually said that she was an "atheist" at a young age, after her parents told her that Santa doesn't exist and she felt that she had been lied to.)

Very interesting way of looking at art, though... Makes me think. And I'm happy to just say that art is expressing yourself in more creative ways... In my original question, I was really wondering if you would be very against abstract art, your participation on LJ is more of the rant-y/I see dumb people type. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

How to metaquote? I've looked through their info and it doesn't have anything too ( ... )
