With the rise of "state capitalism", a term I'm stealing from that Economist I gave you, it could be longer term than any of us on the receiving end of a paystub would care to endure.
I'm totally with you on this one. Potential employers have no business poking into people's credit information. There's just way too much of our personal information available to people who have no business getting it. How often do we have to give out our Social Security number? Back in the days it was created, opponents were assured the SS number would never, ever be used for anything other than the program. Lame, all of it.

When such potential employers gain these records on printed paper...just what becomes of those forms, once no longer needed ( ... )
