it really saddens me how people believe everything they hear and never research anything for themselves, then argue with someone who has researched and knows what they're talking about

I don't know which is worse, those spewing unresearched babbling or those claiming objectivity on the basis of highly biased references. In grad school, we used to have fun with the papers we had to correct - we'd give them an "objectivity rating", and see how blatently skewed some of them would make the argument by stooping to cherry picking references without question or scruple. Not to say that babbling idiots aren't awful - just adding to the train of thought!!
