OMG WTF MONO!?!?!

So um...Yeah. Over Nicole's and my vacation to Florida (which was awesome, btw), I noticed a lymph node on my neck that was way swollen all to hell. On Monday, I asked Jeremy, my nursing-student friend about it, and he was like "Yeah that's definitely a lymph node, and its full of lymph. Are you feeling sick at all?" $80 to see the doctor, and the mono test bumped the 2nd visit up to $125. It suuuuucks.

Remember I got it in 8th grade and was certainly not kissing anyone, and did not know anyone else who had it. . . so somehow it can be randomly transmitted.

Nobody is particularly sure about how contagious mono is. Apparently 80% of adults in the US have mono antigens, which is a little unusual because not 80% of the adult population catches mono. To make things more complicated, Mono frequently becomes dormant inside your spinal cord fluid, and can occasionally come back in other forms. Some sources say that individuals can be contagious for a full year after having Mono. Occasionally it will do something really weird and not be completely dormant during periods of extreme physical stress. For example, ever since I had mono, when I feel an illness coming on, I will get very tired, and if left alone, will sleep for 15-20 hours, but will wake up perfect healthy ( ... )
