I hate spider plants...if you are planting a yard and want to put something cheap down, do not put spider plants on your list. They cut you and scratch you and you have to have asbestos gloves on or they just pierce right through them. We didn't pick them, the real estate people did..bleah!

Are you sure they were spider plants like these? I've had them many times as houseplants and there was nothing prickly or sharp about them -- and certainly nothing that would pierce through a glove!! They're quite soft and wispy, and they actually don't grow very well outside because the leaves can burn in direct sun, and cold temperatures/frosts can kill the leaves.

It sounds like you might be talking about century plants, which have very nasty, sharp teeth/spines and really WILL pierce through just about anything. Actually there are a lot of plants that fit your description about cutting and scratching -- except for spider plants! :)

It's the edges of the leaves..not sharp or prickly at all. Just like a piece of paper, if you grab it wrong, you get a paper cut.
