It's... difficult... to come to terms with someone you care about doing something spectacularly shitty. As Athos does, one wants to make excuses. Or one doesn't talk about it at all, for fear of causing hurt and upset or not being believed.

(I have actually seen that kind of accusation fabricated for base reasons, but was in the near unique position to know that it was a malicious lie. Still a difficult situation.)

It's a really difficult thing to deal with, to actually face what was done while still acknowledging the personhood of both the person you care about and the people they've hurt. I really do believe in rehabilitation, and I hope that everyone who does shitty things can be brought to understand what they've done so they can repent it properly, but I do acknowledge that some people are just *sacks* of dicks and never fucking will do acknowledge another person's humanity and what they actually did to them -_-
