Let's see, I could make the regular fandom meme for the year, but instead of that because no gaming in that thing, I'm going to do a manual year in review.
Four episodes, I got bored out of my skull. No idea how the manga is like, but I was never interested. I'm not really a slice of life person, except for few exceptions. I think Ouran is more romantic comedy with some drama, and Natsume has the supernatural that takes the ordinary out of any loose fluffy slice of life scene in between the youkai drama parts. I dunno, what I watched (five pretty boys hanging out and doing absolutely nothing special) doesn't even seem similar to me to Ouran and Natsume.
I'm a big fan of slice of life which is probably the difference. The ensemble feel is what reminded me of Ouran and the overall look of the art, particularly the soft edges, is where it reminded me of Natsume.
Dunno, maybe in the bishounen visual archetypes (twins, megane, foreign spazz) but I still don't see the Ouran so much beyond that. I do get the Natsume-esque art, however. I had checked it out because it looked pretty and soft, not going to lie.
ETA: Actually, now that I think about it, it's more than likely that Ouran was just picking these visual archetypes on purpose. After all, it's a shoujo satire that then became a shoujo for realz. I mean, they're also pretty big in otome games, and they made a lot of references of those through Renge.
Most of your DS list is my "I need to get myself to get these things in my life" list, LOL. Especially 999 and Ghost Trick. I won't let myself get Pokemon Black until I finish either Pearl or HeartGold.
I think you made it through more of Penguindrum than I did! I got to episode 4 and then wikispoiled the ending and I think I'm good. I do need to finish Kuragehime though.
Too bad that the emulator makes my laptop slow and it's not released in Europe, because there are a bunch of endings in 999 and I didn't get to the True One yet. Ghost Trick is really great, though. And actually, I haven't finish SoulSilver (still needed to beat Red, decided to restart) or Diamond (still grinding for the E4). But I'd say Black/White makes it easier to grind so I was able to finish that one. The final evolutions are a pain in the butt to get sometimes, to compensate.
I watched the whole thing, and I wouldn't be surprised it you even understood it better via spoilers than me. Too many metaphors.
