Also, it was open and on the way, and I hadn't put anything into my body in about 16 hours that didn't contain copious amounts of caffeine or nicotine. Steve, I know this story should have grossed me out, at least a little; it did not. I know it should have made me weep for your sorry (forgive the pun) ass, though that it did not do either. Instead it has brightened my day more than anything else in the last week. It may just be the fact that even in misery your writing is amazing. But I'd like to quote Avenue Q, this is one of the best cases of Schadenfreude, EVER. (BTW I hope you have healed from this situation, it sounds like some residual damage would have resulted, and I have been there, subscription card and all, and I would never want to be in that spot again)

Schadenfreude is the essence of humor. Almost every joke I've ever heard, having been an ersatz student of The Funny for about 15 years has broken down to 'I've been in that situation. That sucked.', or 'I'm glad I haven't been in that situation. That would've sucked.' Human beings are funny because we do a lot of remarkably stupid shit to each other. Or, in this case, our shit makes us do something remarkably stupid. Either way, you can't go five minutes without doing something that would be very funny to at least one other person.

PS: If you can remember it, what magazine? I'm just curious as to which particular fishwrap is considered more disposable than the others. I've developed a fondness for readers digest, because they print on what seems to be a softer version of newsprint.
