SIMPLE / COMPLICATED
It's sort of like that irony thing that's so important to him. It's so simple to her, even while she's pulling back from the kiss. It probably wasn't a very good kiss. She's not very experienced, and despite what he says, Dave isn't all that much of a pro either. He's certainly better than she is.
"So yeah, kind of like that," he says, and he seems sort of nervous. She can't be sure though, not with the shades and the way he never lets anyone know what he's thinking. It's just an intuition she has. A woman's intuition.
"I believe I understand this," she replies, and she wonders if she should tell him that she's kissing him because she wants to kiss him, if if he's still stuck on the idea that she's only into girls. He probably is. He thinks this is way more complicated than it is, like he has to make things complicated in order to understand them.
"Alright, good, " he says, and if she thought he was nervous at all before, she's pretty sure she imagined it, "You shouldn't embarrass yourself in front of Rose now. Or Vriska, whoever the fuck you're going after. You know I can't keep any of this shit straight, right?"
"Will I embarrass myself with you?" she asks. She sort of wonders if it's too forward or if it's too many people or some other strange human quota. He doesn't seem to get what she's saying at first.
"What?" he asks, sort of. It doesn't really sound like a question, but he's looking at her pretty intensely and she considers for a moment.
"I'm not really sure how to say this," she says, carefully, clearly, "But I think I might like to go after you."
"Whoa, hey," he holds his hands up, carefully, palms out. It's a smooth motion, almost practiced, but his face doesn't change to match them, "I thought you were into girls. I am a hundred fucking percent male here."
She wonders if it worries him, that she's been so preoccupied with girls and is suddenly, or not so suddenly, turning to him. Does it make him feel less masculine? Human males seem to be quite preoccupied with their masculinity. She's not sure about troll males. Maybe she should look into it.
"Gender doesn't matter for these situations," she replies, and Dave gets a look on his face. Not quite disturbed, but maybe a little perturbed.
"Uh, yeah it kind of does," his hands move to his pockets, and stay there. The perturbed look fades, replaced by his typical moody nonchalance, "I mean, for humans it's kind of a big part of that whole lovemaking deal."
"Not for trolls," she replied, "I'm honestly not sure if there's a reason for us to have genders. We reproduce-"
Hands move again. He puts his finger to her lips, "I don't think I want to be distracted by yet, Kanaya. Let's just stick to what's going on. So you're into guys too?"
"Yes," she feels herself frown, a little frustrated, "If you're not interested, then I can understand, of course."
"No," his other hand is finding it's way to her shoulder, and he's leaning forward as he finishes, "No, I'm definitely interested. Totally interested."
This kiss is better than the last one. They're both getting the hang of it, really.
