Rummage what?

I work for a non-profit and we are going through some tough times financially and are looking for added income. I was thinking of recommending we do a rummage sale, being that our organization is largely run by it's participants we have a huge base of people that would probably be interested in making donations ( Read more... )

1. I've participated in charity rummage sales locally; yes, they have raised decent amounts, have been successful, etc. Besides the local newspaper, seek out local organizations that would also support your cause or a similar cause. They could announce to their members about your organization's event. Since it's a housing justice (right?) non-profit, check out other social justice orgs. Religious groups are a good place to start. Check with your local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Any group that works with poverty initiatives might be interested in getting involved or at least probably wouldn't mind letting their members know about your event.

Another good set of groups to contact would be local food banks . In IL, there are 9, and they distribute to a ton of little satellites around the state. (1) Tapping into umbrella organizations is a good one because the structure does your work for you. (2) Additionally, working with organizations like this is good because their clientele would probably be interested in purchasing ( ... )
