I didn't know they were doing this. That's a horrible idea.
What exactly do they mean by "campus discussions"? Would it simply be debates composed of USC debaters held on campus? What does that achieve?
I'm not sure where else I want to go with this comment, so I'll close by saying that I really hope debate sticks around, Maggie. (Funny, would you be doing debate next year? ;-)
"On campus discussions" sound like groups of people getting together to talk about things that they aren't informed about or, worse, things that they are informed about and are very opinionated about. Debate makes you defend things you don't like, it doesn't sound like that's the case with these things. It sounds like something that doesn't require critical thought or competition, just a wishy-washy "hey, let's talk" kind of group. I'm not sure why that even requires funding.
Even if I wasn't on the team next year, I still feel really strongly about it. It's been a great thing for me, and I feel like it could be for other people, too.
