Heh. Every paper I ever wrote in college was composed the night before it was due--and so I'd say you're ahead of the game. I'm a terrible procrastinator, really. And I was an English major, so papers and papers and papers was all I ever really did.

i've always been a procrastinator too, but then i end up not performing particularly well at the last minute (probably because i'm nervous), especially with writing. today's bout of procrastination when i was supposed to be working on my paper took the form of that career test that is going around, and lo and behold, i was born to be a..........fashion designer! hahaha! who knew?

Mmm. I don't know if it'll help any, but here's what I did when I had to write a paper:

What I'd do is, I'd type up my thesis. And then I'd type out all the quotes I was going to use, on account that this-or-that professor always wanted so many citations and all. And then I'd arrange them in the order in which they were to appear. That way I had my thesis to keep everything in check, and these quotes to work around, so that it all ran together.

Figure it was a way to keep myself on track, and it allowed me to skip out on the outline step--which was never a strong point, really.

A fashion designer. Heh. I can only imagine what such a test would tell me I should do. Figure those things are never right, really.

that sounds like an excellent way to organize (i'm not an outline writer either), especially for longer papers (and I'll have to start writing a longer one soon, very soon). and with that method you can probably see the general page count looming in the distance (and i'm generally totally unable to predict how much evidence i have, so knowing something like "oh crap i need five more pages!" before the last minute would be very, very good).

Hee hee to my career test. after fashion designer, i think my second career suggestion was something like "anthropologist"--something which sounds like tremendous fun but i don't think i possess any of the necessary skills for. of course if "anthropologist" could be stretched to mean "archaeologist in Egypt" and i could wear a pith helmet, i'd be game.

Don't give up!! It is so hard to start these stupid essays/writings/etc.. but once you start it will go smoothly :)
