Such a wonderful poignant story. I've always felt that Elizabeth's fascination with pirates and adventure was an escape from the real tragedy of her life. Thank you for writing it so beautifully. I particularly like the way you portray Elizabeth's and her father's relationship--almost like two strangers, cast together upon a desert island, now having to get to know each other.

I also saw Elizabeth as escaping into books, in much the same way I did as a child. A wonderful, fanciful life of adventure to escape the dreary existence of a bleak winter's day.

Her relationship with her father always seemed to me to be a bit distant, not without affection, but not in touch.

Thank you for your comments, I am glad I was able to write a plausible backstory for Elizabeth.

btw, your icon is lovely. One of yours?

I did a lot of escaping into books, too--although my childhood had very little classic tragedy. I was just introspective and unpopular!

Her relationship with her father always seemed to me to be a bit distant, not without affection, but not in touch.
Yes, there did seem to be a lot of misunderstanding between them, with gusts of occasional insight.

I always like to see plausible, sympathetic Elizabeth portrayals.

Thank you. The icon is mine. All of my icons are my own art.

I am still in awe of your art deco piece with Jack and the Black Pearl. You have an incredible talent.
