It is with heavy hearts that pir8fancier and I feel we need to let this community know that on Thursday, we lost our co-moderator, gryphons-lair, as she died peacefully in her sleep. Diane was diagnosed about a year-and-a-half ago with a brain tumor; she had an operation that put her in remission for several months, but in mid-2011, the tumor returned and was determined

This is very sad news, Diane was such a great person. I'm glad I had the chance to meet Diane in Chicago at the Tallship Festival in 2010. She was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot from her. She will be missed.

It was one of her favorite hobbies, that much was sure. If you believe an afterlife, she has all kinds of time for it now. :-)

What a shock to hear this. I'm so sorry. But I am also glad to hear you and pir8fancier were there for her during her last months and able to bless her with some happy moments.

I last saw her in August, when she was still getting around okay and could keep up a conversation. We all spent a day birding and eating ice cream, which I have to say, is not a bad way to see someone out.

Oh, those ducks. I once bought her a set of tiny ones including a pirate, and it gave her a good long laugh when the mail arrived. ;-)
