Ranting over the Dragonlance movie

Jan 27, 2008 01:06

I just finished watching the Dragonlance movie and I can safely say that it was much worse than I expected it to be.

Firstly, half the names were mispronounced (regardless of whether Margaret Weis had Raistlin's name's pronunciation that way, it's completely off.)

Secondly, there were absolutely no pauses. period. No dramatic pauses between speech. Someone gets healed, they immediate sit up. Somene finished their part in a conversation, they turn and walk away. Very choppy.

Fistandantilus's spellbook was A. never mentiond after the first time (I don't remember if it ever was mentioned again in that book, though...), and B. it was brown with gold stuff... not black and midnight blue, which was completely overemphasized (at least, to me) in the books.

The dragons and draconians were cgi'd whereas everything else at least appeared hand-drawn. Mixing the two made it look terrible.

There was only one kind of draconian, not five like there should have been, and they were all clones of eachother.

There was absolutely no travel time. So also next to no character development (and that which occurred was obviously forced in). And damnit, Fizban was supposed to use a massive fireball to undo the door to the cage, no unlock the damned lock with his godly powers. And he's especially not supposed to be revealed as Paladine well... ever. It's just heavily hinted at. And he's also the hmm... I think Metallic dragon whereas Tahkasis is the five headed dragon... he was just a guy in armor. Unacceptable.

*deep breath* Riverwind never got all his skin burned off and then magically healed, Tanis hugged Goldmoon a little too much, I don't remember Laurana ever going off with guy whose name doesn't matter, but is a cleric of Paladine and can read the disks of Mishikal, and the awesome only black guy in all of Krynn, who eventually gets that pwnge silver arm was only mentioned once.

And, of course, the lack of Onyx bursting out of the damned well in Xak Tsaroth and attacking everyone is entirely disappointing. And there wasn't enough time spent there with Bupu to to make Bupu amazing and show the only compassion Raistlin ever has. ever. And there was no amazing fight with the draconians on the lifts.

And goddamnit, Qualinesti looks terrible for an elven city. Not enough nature-ey, too many trees with windows.

And Shirak makes Raist's staff light up, not blind random goblins. And Verminaard's too huge and his mask is retarded.

And there is no part where Tas goes and sits in the dragon head and screws with the army of draconians!

On the bright side, I'm slowly remembered the deity structure of Krynn, and lots of really fun stuff about well... everything involving the Dragonlance Saga. ^_^ YAY!

I realize that movies aren't going to be nearly as good as the books, but it's my job as a DL fanboy to point out every inconsistency. Even though I missed a lot.
