So my house has an unfinished and finished part of the basement.  On the unfinished side you can see the ducts and the wood studs etc and if you are a cat you can jump up on some shelves and climb into the area between the finished basement ceiling drywall, and the "real ceiling".  My question for those that know, is there any real issue with me ( Read more... )

Kidding!

I am reasonably certain the flash point of cardboard is more than the temperature of your average heating duct. If you're really worried about it, perhaps some insulation around the duct itself is in order, but I am by no means an expert.

Slider's right. cardboard won't combust around a heating duct. he's also right in that insulation will work great for blocking.. and will cut down drafting better which should make your heat more efficient (winz).

my concern is that she'll eat it and at least if she chews on cardboard she won't die from that.
