Its also a good way to make lots of friends very quickly. Don't dismiss it until you've at least tried it. can always try and then de activate your account later.
I weigh that against possible internet/real drama though. It was one thing when someone got mad at you over some obscure forum over something trivial, it's quite another when it involves real people you know on a day-to-day basis.
Example: Our company has a Facebook page, if I link to it then I'm representing the company in some way. The other thing is a Facebook profile is becoming more and more important for finding a job, so there's the concern that I'd have to keep it extremely boring.
There other concerns I have about Facebook, but I'm not going to go into them in this post.
Easily solved. You can limit who accesses your profile, even up to the individual, you can get an internet alias account that doesn't link with your real name, or you can just not post anything of any deep significance on there. That's what I do.
