SO MUCH LOVE by Rocket Summer
Soundtrack of My Summer - tegomasu
It’s been Massu’s habit to wake up early everyday, even on weekends and none-work days. He doesn’t mind if he sleeps late either, because not getting enough sleep and waking up early is already an alarm clock inside him.
There are times he wakes up three in the morning. It’s ridiculously early, yes, but also convenient for troubled Tegoshi, who calls him around that time more than often. Massu doesn’t want to think that it’s because they’re finally together that Tegoshi’s clingy like that, but it gets into his head sometimes that it is, in fact, factual.
Not that it bothers Massu too much, too.
“I’ve been thinking about you, Massu,” Tegoshi says shyly over the phone, and Massu can tell from his voice that he is smiling, probably even twirling the cord if he’s not using a wireless. Massu laughs over the phone, and tells Tegoshi he’s amazingly sweet like that, phone calls in the morning. Massu thinks it’s a little cliché if one would think about it, but the idea is just so cute, especially for his Tegoshi-kun. Who cares if it is cliché?
On usual days, when they’re on the set for a concert rehearsal or a production of a new single music video, Tegoshi still clings to Massu. It’s hardly something new for the rest of the members-they still don’t know how it’s working between the two of them; they’re a duet called TegoMasu, and Tegoshi has a lot of member ai, especially towards Massu-and that’s all they’ve ever known.
Tegoshi sometimes has these urges to just grab his hand, hold it tight for a long time.
One time, during a recording for the new single by Tegomass, they’re singing in harmony. It’s the chorus, and Tegoshi grabs his hand again, and Massu is obviously caught by this. When he gives Tegoshi a half look, he in turn smiles at him. He’s singing the song as if he means it’s the both of them, and it’s cute, just so cute. Massu is compelled to hold his hand back, tries not to kiss him in front of Shige who has the day off, who decided to come and watch Tegomass to record in the studio.
Member ai is all Shige knows; no kissing or doing the unmentionable. Not that they’ve done that though, the latter. Massu just thought of it, several times, sometimes even at night, when he’s on the phone with Tegoshi, when they talk about their day, when they talk about each other.
On a NEWS concert day, Massu gets a little feverish. He tries not to show it, but he knows Tegoshi, and he knows that he can see right through him if he’s hiding something. So Tegoshi obviously knows he’s sick. He’s concerned and all, tells him he should go back home and do his best to get well, and “I’ll come to visit you tonight, after the concert is done, okay? I’ll come and bring you something to eat, too.” The concert is held in the morning, ends in noontime. However manager-san doesn’t like it, Massu getting sick, so all he gives him medicine. Tegoshi feels sorry he’s sick, and a little unforgiving towards manager-san because he’s ungrateful and inconsiderate.
“I’ll be fine, Tego,” Massu assures him, kisses him on the cheek when no one is looking. Tegoshi looks like he still doesn’t believe him, but it’s there, the tiny consideration.
After the concert, Massu is completely exhausted, extremely tired. He falls asleep on Tegoshi’s shoulder after he takes his medicine again. Massu holds his hand while they’re in the car on the way back home, fingers threaded, breath warm on Tegoshi’s collar.
On better days, when there isn’t much to do for the day-which is rare to happen, mind you-Tegoshi takes him out to eat. Massu has no reason to refuse his offer, because it’s Tegoshi he’s going out with on a date even if he doesn’t say the word itself-because he knows it’s already implied, being just the two of them-and there is food involved. Massu likes food.
In the middle of eating dessert-Tegoshi is feeding him again, naturally-he asks him why Tegoshi acts differently from when they were just best friends, to now when they’re finally boyfriends.
“I feel undivided, ne,” Tegoshi says, tells Massu to say ‘ahh’. Masuda does as he is told, and thinks more about what he means.
There is a reason why circles are round and unending; why when there is black, there is white; when there is good, there is evil; when there is a start, there is an end; when you sing, you need someone to be there to harmonize with you; and when there is man, there is woman. Well, at least in the public norm, for that last bit.
“Ne, Tegoshi,” Massu looks up at him, kicks him subtly under the table, just to tease him, “don’t ever leave me, okay? I need you.”
Massu assumes that Tegoshi thinks he’s joking, because all he gets after meaning what he says is a profuse kick, and a candid smile. “Back at you, Massu.”
