Clever pup?

Now she's way to young for this, but it seems she's an early developer (or I'm just a wishful thinker). Tala's been with us only since Saturday night, but twice now she's told us she wants to go out when she needs to poop instead of pacing about, sniffing and whining ( Read more... )

She sounds absolutly adorable :)

I meant to ask before, how have the cats taken to the new addition to the family?

Preliminary indications lean towards tolerance, but we're taking it slow for now. The cats are getting plenty of attention from us, though, as we don't want feelings of jealousy developing, we're just keeping them away from Tala except for short controlled exposures where cat and dog get equal fussing.

That's excellent news ^^ My fear was how Bluey could react (he's so shy) but it sounds like all is well, and equal fussing is certainly the way forward ;)

I have advice being trained as a professional working dog handler. Not sure if my advice would be that useful though.

I'd agree with you that she looks to be a fast learner. Books give the average behavior pattern and time table. Tala seems to be out on the end of the bell curve so I wouldn't go totally by the book. Thanks for the update.

Whatever Tala's motive for not eating breakfast, I find it hard to believe that she thought she "mustn't eat until the alpha does." It seems to me like a misinterpretation of the meaning of 'pack.'

But of course my experience is mostly Mischa, and he's one part wolf and two parts cat. And I'm surprised to see a puppy hesitating to eat at all, so you can take my advice with all the salt it deserves. :)
