I took a quick shopping trip to Verona this morning around 9:30.  On my way back at about 11:00, I came upon an accident scene.  The police and fire crew had the westbound (heading towards Dodgeville) right lane blocked off and in the ditch was a pretty mangled truck.  There was a tarp over the drivers side and it was quite obvious that it was a ( Read more... )

..last night we saw at least a dozen cars on the side of the road and watched one spin out on the other side of the road as we were watching..

I've spun out before.. twice.. but never super bad.. and I made it back onto the road the second time (first time, I was still on the road.. just facing the wrong direction.. )

it always amazes me how people seem to forget how to drive in it... I guess it's time for homo idiota hiemis again..

I know how scary it is....I've had several close calls, including one time on black ice on a bridge over the Wi river. I hit both sides of the bridge and ended up in the wrong lane just as a semi came up over the hill just before the bridge.

I guess the man who was killed today was a 49 y.o. from East Troy. I feel bad for his family...what a crappy thing to deal with.

yep. It was so obvious how it happened. The ruts dug into the median were amazing.

Certainly makes me all the more careful when I drive! Of course, it just takes one other person losing control of their car to fuck things up no matter how careful I am.

To add to Josh's comment, we had a couple of fully loaded rigs fly by us in the left lane, which was completely coated with snow and ice, doing at least 65 -70 in the middle of that blizzard. It was pretty nerve wrecking to say the least. I felt bad for the smaller cars just trying to stay on the road while being swept away by the monstrosities tearing through WI.

Those guys are such assholes! I lost all vision of the road and my surroundings when one blew by me last night. Scared the shit out of me 'cause I wasn't sure where I was on the road. Fuckers! It should be illegal for them to pass in that kind of weather.

Did you see that 2 semis jack knifed on the interstate this morning? Speed's all good until you have to stop. Dumbasses!

I have to admit I have no sympathy for the people who still insist on driving at regular/high speeds when roads are dangerous - and end up getting in an accident. Seems they're just asking for it. (I *do* feel sorry for any innocent cars/people who are put in danger because of these idiot drivers tho)
Srsly - is getting somewhere 10 minutes faster really worth a car accident, injury and death? I drive like a granny when it's snowy & icy; it doesn't look cool, but there's no way in hell I want to die behind the wheel (or smooshed into a windshield).

I totally agree. I think people get pissed because I putz along to slowly but they can kiss my ass. I hate it when they pass on the big hwy but I'll even slow down just to let them get around me if they want to be dumbasses....I'd rather get to my destination safe and late than not at all.
