Yep, you're so right. I notice that not so much with my close friends, who I think are awesome through and through because I've known them forever, but in meeting new people. Friends have learned to draw each other out, to focus on positives and really appreciate one another. For example, I could be ditzy and ridiculous around you, and we'd both have a good laugh, but if I acted the same way around a new person I would worry ... does that (confident, beautiful, intelligent) person think I'm retarded ( ... )

Hrm, I always thought you were pretty.

We all have things we don't like about ourselves. I think I'm socially inept. It's not really that - it's more that I'm picky and easily bored at parties. I always think the problem must be with me, and it sort of is, but basically it's just not being in the right environment.

You're just fine, and anyone who is being catty with you is probably jealous and sees you as competition. As for your feeling jealous towards other girls, think of it this way: if you're friends with someone who is prettier or who has a hotter boyfriend, be thankful that it means that she'll probably attract more jealous and negative attention from other women than you will. Sometimes it's useful to keep one of those "unbelievable" people around! And if you're the only one who treats her as someone who is perfectly normal, she'll probably really appreciate it.
