A few hours ago I finished the oral component of my Master's exam...and all went well!  I had three days between the five-hour closed-book written portion and the oral...plenty of time to be nervous.  I was able to start the oral by presenting changes I wanted to make...nothing too major.  I was pretty nervous about the text-dating portion and the ( Read more... )

Congrats! Glad to hear that everything went well.
I had a headache for two sold days after my oral, because it was rather intense, but like you, the questions were more a discussion than a grilling. I had questions like "what's the difference between communication and information sharing?" and "why did sex evolve?". At one point, though, they would shout out names like "Rosalind Franklin" and "R.A. Fischer" and "Lewontin" and ask me what their scientific contributions were. It's kind of like remembering dates, I think. I missed "what's the female reproductive part of a flower called?" In case you're wondering, it's the ovary!!!

Enjoy stree-free reading times!

that is, "stress-free" not "stree-free", though "stree-free" sounds cooler

Wow, your oral sounds much worse than mine. The questions I got were specific enough so I had an idea of what kind of answer they were looking for, but general enough that I didn't have to come up with totally obscure things. The worst one was "What political motivation might Gustav III have had for patterning the Swedish Academy after the French Academy?" But I fielded it like a pro. Oh yeah. (It was because he wanted to give Swedish some status, because he and the nobility mostly spoke French at the time. Which was, like, 1786.)

Anyway, no headache, just lots of inner squeeing and happiness. And I will avoid both stress and strees for the next few days...Do you start school again on Tuesday?
