I recorded the sky arts programme Bella Figura last week and only got around to watching it yesterday. The premise of the programme was, basically, "should opera singers be fat?".
Sounds like an interesting, and unusually well-balanced, look at an emotive issue.
For what it's worth, unless you've put on a significant amount since I last saw you, I don't think you need to lose any... though I will admit to an element of bias, because you're about my size and I know from experience that being significantly thinner than I currently am is not good for me. Different people function best in different weight ranges. I've got a friend in Germany who is a stick insect, and it works for her. (It's not deliberate on her part, I hasten to add; she eats like a horse. She just has a fast metabolism.)
It was a good programme. I've saved it on Sky+ so I can watch it again later.
I'm probably half a stone heavier than when you saw me last. I was about a stone heavier than I feel comfortable then, so now I'm 1.5 stones heavier than I feel comfortable. At the same time, I can't seem to shake any weight regardless of what I do, so I am just trying to eat healthy and be active when I get time time and hopefully one day it'll balance out. Or it won't, and I'm just meant to be this weight (boo!).
And don't worry - I like food and wine far too much to become a stick insect. :oP
I'm surprised you don't burn it all off with the sheer amount of stuff you do. But, hey, think of Mole. Now there is a very talented countertenor of statuesque magnificence. :-)
That is very true indeed! And I know loads of dramatic sopranos who are not small creatures. I don't understand how they can expect voices like that to come out of people the size of my pinky finger. lol
Thanks for writing this. It was a really interesting read - especially for someone who hasn't seen the programme, and won't have a chance to do so either.
