So, three days after she's supposed to call me, I get three instant messages in the span of 1 minute. She basically says, sorry I didn't call, was reading a great book, I ate some food, the day was gray and rainy, I hope you're doing okay, I'm off to bed, bye! She then logs off

That's some weird communication you have with your mom. If you decide you are past her needing to act like your mom I think you should tell her that you don't need her to act like your mom and maybe just be your friend. You might get more from her in that capacity.

Her treatment of me has always led me to believe she likes her friends more than me. For instance, she's visited friends in the area more times than she's visited me. She'll even visit friends in the area and not see me.

I see friends with Moms and I think it'd be great to have one. I think I had one when I was really young, but I only lived with her for 10 years. The majority of the time was 0-6. I tried living with her for one year at 13 and hated it, then did 3 years from 17-20 as a near adult and that's it.

A good analogy for me is to think of her as an adopted step mom from the time when I was 17, and that my real one died when I was 7. That's the best way for me to think about the whole thing.
