Here's an interesting article on tax dollars and why you pay them. It occurs to me that there have been some expensive wars since, but very few "taxes on the rich" to help pay for them. You might find this interesting though I don't have the links handy anymore...

During an argument in Politics node in forum (yes I still read it), George was defending the administration and the tax cuts and the cost of the war in Iraq. I looked up the numbers and the tax cut put in place by the current president Bush, were it repealed, would pay for the war in Iraq completely. Instead we get a few extra bucks and huge future debt.
