The hordes of stupidity

For quite a while now, I have been preaching that people are not stupid. They may be ignorant or tired, beaten, weak, deluded, angry or arrogant but they are never stupid. Yet since I mentioned this to a work colleague, I seem to see more examples that cannot be explained any other way than stupidity. Leaving aside medical matters of the brain ( Read more... )

I would say I do some stupid things. When you ignore something you know and make a mistake as a result. It's not ignorance- I know I'll get burned if I touch the stove without the heat-proof glove, but I act in an unthinking way because I'm just topping up the fire and then I burn myself. But had I stopped at any point I would have acted otherwise, I did know better. That's a stupid thing to do.

So is anything that begins with the phrase "check this out! It's going to be awesome!" The only outcome of that is pretty much stupid.

Ignorance though, anyone who doesn't want to be ignorant can learn things they don't know. People who want to stay ignorant, though, does that become stupidity? When we don't know we are ignorant but pass on bad information to others? It's a tricky ground to define.

I guess my main experience of the ignorant and stupid are the people I see out on the roads on a day-to-day basis ( ... )
