Uni life thus far...

Sep 29, 2008 09:32

My first day at uni has had both its highs and lows. Left home around 9, and after picking my sister up on the way and getting lost a bit due to a one-way system, we ended up at my halls at around 10:15. Moving in didn’t take too long- my parents dumped my stuff in my room, but had to leave straightaway, but my sister helped me organise everything.

Heya! All in all it sounds like a great start to an exciting adventure! Not many people move into dorms for university (or out of home at all) where I live, unless their from rural or country areas. What's it like? I expect it takes getting used to. I've always been fascinated by that.

Too bad about the ensuite (and the cold! Aww!!) but it could have been worse... you could be sharing with an utter cow... who's messy... and rude... :o:o!!

Hope your first days were fun!

It's pretty damn cool- most people over here move out, especially in our first year. Half the people i've met live only an hour away from the uni. I'm lucky- i love the halls i'm staying in, though they are a bit of a trek from uni...i'll put up pics of my room at some point

I'm actually really glad that i didn't get the ensuite now...i'm saving around £400 and my roommate is so nice, i don't think we're going to have any problems

Hope uni is going well for you... *hugs*

Sounds fascinating. I'm still living at home so I'm not going through the whole roommate thing. Though honestly, the fact that you get your own bedroom is pretty awesome. All the public universities in Cali (from what I've heard) you basically have to share with 1-2 other people, and in some dorms you have to share a bathroom with basically the whole floor. Not fun.

Are you living in campus-provided housing, or what? Your rooms just sound... awesome. Is it a private university or something?

For us, though living at home is an option, it's far more social to live out. It costs an arm and a leg, though... There are places where you share rooms, and i've got friends who are sharing like 5 toilets and 3 showers with 15 people; i lucked out when i picked my acccomodation.
The accomodation is university owned, yes- don't know quite what you mean by private university though. We have a different system- i mean, we pay £3000 a year to come here, but it's the same cost no matter what university you go to...and it's paid for by a student loan which you only pay back once you're earning more than £15k a year...
I have some friends who are here on a general course from the Uni of Chicago...there are actually a lot of americans over here. Do you get the choice of a year abroad?

Ah, yes, it's the same here: possible to live at home, but more social to live out ( ... )
