HEY! I posted the same thing on my myspace (now that sounds redundent, eh). Anyway, Kyle MacDonald kicks ass! Way to re-envigorate the Barter Economy again!
Hell, yes! Ever hear of the program they have going on in Ithica, NY? It's a community trade thing. If I need my car fixed, and you need your kids watched on weekdays, we'd work out some agreement based on hours and complexity of the task. It's sweet!
The local co-op in Boulder has a system like that! Just sign up saying that you have "x" skill and you're willing to volunteer a few hours every now and then. When you work you store up a bank of hours, then - when you need something you just ask other people to help out and the time they put it comes out of the bank you've created. There's also all kinds of more one-to-one trades - babysiting for fresh produce and so forth. Yay for progressive towns!
Ohhh...I wonder if our co-op has something like that. I know they do a volunteer thing where members can volunteer at the co-op and they earn credits to use at the co-op. I might ask if they have a program like you described. That could be very beneficial in this area.
