A wenching we will go...

Didn't sell nearly as much as I had hoped at Ishpembing Ren Fest yesterday. And I STILL didn't win a costume contest (but my new dress IS kick-butt!). I did however make up for it by once again being dubbed "Best Wench" and winning $50! Best Wench for the second time...I could get used to this ( Read more... )

When you're at a Ren Fair where you're camping do you ever walk around out of garb? Do you wake up and put it on immediately or wait a little bit and then dress up?

Just a curiosity... :)

Usually in the evenings we sit around in our mundanes (term for regular modern clothes). In the morning we have to get dressed when we get up because we have to get ready and set up pretty quick. But then once the festival is done we usually peel off the sweaty linen/wool/muslin and put shorts and t-shirts back on.

Reenactments are different (though I've never done one but want to). There, the people are saying I AM from such-and-such time so they camp, cook, eat, sleep, and socialize like people from "back when". So they sleep in garb and cook with historically correct supplies and sleep in really cool historical tents and such. Mike Miller, the piper from our wedding does Scottish reenactment and one of these days I'll give in and join him! :)

Very very interesting... now I know!

I would think reenactments would be fun for a bit but for the long term I'm not sure I could deal with it! Microwaves can be handy sometimes! :)

I've seen a few reenactments when I was younger, in middle school and high school, and they were very neat. Seeing the complete picture of the lifestyle transports you to another time. :)

I miss you guys!!

Reenactment groups usually only go out on the weekends. Living history sites can function all week long, but usually the folks get a break...to go home and use their microwaves :)

Miss you, too!
