I beleive Lj is a  service provided by a buisness not a right
They are saying the new LJ basic accounts will be ad supported.
Profit is not evil

Therefore I will be posting tomorrow in support of the LJ owners trying to make a profit off a buisness.

the only thing i can complain about is them altering the "top 10 interests" to make LJ more "family friendly" (i.e. surpressing fanfiction, depression & bisexuality as the top interests) but well, I'm not bothered enough to boycott LJ for a day...

They are altering the top 10 interests to make their product more appealing to advertisers.

If I was trying to woo advertisers and my top 10 had some well unmarketable or unsavory items I would definitely do the same. This has to do with brand identity and target markets.

They aren't saying you can't have the interest. They just don't want their front page to turn away advertisers.

I just searched for bisexual and found 348 communities i found 329 interested in fucking and 47 interested in pedophilia it doesn't sound like they are censoring the communities too much.

yeah. I did the other night a search for "bdsm" trying to find someone and,well, the communities that pulled up were vast.

So, eh, I'm not SO perturbed... they aren't telling people to not have those communities or interests... just not including them in the top 10 count. Definitely not enough to prompt me to boycott for a day.

I'm a basic member and I don't remember there NOT being ads. Unless I joined after they changed but I've been a member now for over a year and I've always had banner ads.

I don't particularly have an issue with it either. I understand people's concerns about LJ maybe not being as public with the info as maybe they should have but I can deal with ads. As long as they are annoying pop up things that you can't get rid of. Those are annoying.
