Once a Catholic, always a Catholic. I'm "lapsed", as we say, due to my many personal disagreements about the church, yet I do still identify with being Catholic. I couldn't watch the Oscars, but was mesmerized by the Conclave. Funny, isn't it? And when it was announced that "We have a Pope", I couldn't turn away.

I have fallen so behind in reading your blog!

I too find it a bit odd that people expect the new pope to have basically non-Catholic beliefs...I too find myself hoping for a new chapter with him, one that will benefit all the world, not just Catholics...

I'm cautiously hopeful. I'm not Catholic, not even Christian, but the Catholic church's influence in large parts of society isn't insignificant.
