I thought they would be that sort, but confirmation is good!
Shoes are starting to look like a situation where I'd rather pay a lot for a pair that I'm not going to grow out of and will last for years rather than getting what's easily affordable now and having to keep spending money on new shoes every few months or maybe every couple of years if I'm lucky.
Hmm, given the fact that you're trying to get a job at the zoo I'd wait to see how that comes through. Sometimes employers want you to wear a specific type of shoe (like: black, no slip, such and so a horrible brand with no arch support, etc.). Once you know yea or nay on the job front you can go ahead and either get whatever you want (no job T_T) or get something that'll match with their dress code (yey job!:D).
Other than that, I kinda like that high top on the no sweat front page, looks like the old school converse :P
I have every intention of waiting until I've got at least one and probably two paychecks under my belt and a dress code to refer to, no matter how long that takes. I can't afford anything but the No Sweat shoes right now. D:
But yeah, I like that about the No Sweat shoes, too, especially if their durability's more in line with the old Converse than the new. I might end up buying them as off-duty shoes.
My red hi-tops from them did last for nearly a full year - and that was including every-damn-day wear, getting thrown in chlorinated pools, sinking knee-deep in mud, impromptu five mile hikes, and a couple months of trudging through the evils of salty Chicago slush.
And really, I could still wear them - it's just that the rubber came away from the canvas a bit at the sides, which gets my feet a bit wetter than I can stand if I land in a puddle or what-not. The canvas upper and the soles are still in great shape. (Like the old school Chucks, though, these have NO arch support. I love it, because running track wrecked my arches and having carved insole-type shoes feeling like being stabbed, but these really aren't "let me pamper your active toesy-woesies!" shoes. These are... Vimes I-Can-Feel-The-Street!-It-Tells-Me-Things! shoes. FYI.)
That sounds like how my Converse started falling apart and I'm way less active than you, so if/when I get shoes from No Sweat they might just last longer than a year. ;) But thanks for the info!
...HOLY MARY MOTHER OF MEXICO, I HAD NO IDEA BIRKS WERE SO EXPENSIVE!
I mean, damn. I thought I was splurging when I bought my Docs! 0____0
(Suddenly, the fact that many of my hippie college classmates joined me for dumpster-diving after buying new footwear makes so much more sense. They were bankrupted! By their shoes!)
I KNOW, HOLY SHIT RIGHT? But if they last a really long time and don't get lost or stolen or anything then the price probably works out to be a pretty good long-term investment, like getting an actual washer and dryer instead of going to the laundromat forever.
That's probably really true. Still, it's all, "Oh my, what nice, sturdy looking shoes! I wonder how much they co---ASHKJADHKJADJKKHJGSAHJKASD::*CHOKE**FLAIL**SLIPINTOSEIZUREINDUCEDCOMA*"

I don't have a pair because I'm a strictly-Payless shopper, but if I had the cash I would so get Birkenstocks.
