there are some memories whose recollection is like dreaming. what i mean is, it's really hard to realize it when you are thinking about such memories, and if you don't concentrate on the recollection after it finishes, it disappears in about 30 seconds ( Read more... )

To echo the comment above: Wow.

I think everyone has their fucked up parenting stories, but the fact that you never actually got bad grades in high school makes this especially confusing. If I'm out of line here, feel free to tell me to stfu, but one of the problems with being that overbearing about grades is that the student doesn't set his/her own goals, and there's no sense of accomplishment.

Like, if you get an A, instead of feeling good and patting yourself on the back, you feel a sense of relief that your parents won't say shit.

I don't know personally if it works like that. I had a sister flunking out of high school at the same time I got into UofC, so my parents left me alone for the most part. But that's the impression I got from talking to Shuo, whose parents are very overbearing.

the thing is, i never felt like i had overbearing parents. i just felt like i wasnt living up to my own goals (which, if accomplished, would warrant a self-patting-on-back).
