That was like the most dramatic match I've seen in a looong time... Awesome Match!!

GO ENGLAND
GO PORTUGALThe referee should be banned from all international matches, though. This is not the first match where he was a total failure, I remember certain Champions League matches before. I'm almost upset that I won't see Rooney playing anymore, though ( Read more... )

Portugal WERE fantastic. I didn't think Figo played all that well, but he was a great presence. I'm actually glad it went to penalties, because anything else would have been much more frustrating after England's goal was disallowed. Going out on penalties almost seemed more fair, since David James is hardly David Seaman :)

Totally agree about the ref. He should be struck off the international register. And made to sit in corner with a big dunce's cap on his head.

Erm. YAY FOOTBALL/SOCCER. I hear the US team is getting better. Does anyone know if that's true? The rumors are they may have a chance at making the finals in the next couple of years.

Hard to say as there's almost no information about them. In the UK we hear little or nothing about the US team and there seems to be practically no news in the USA about soccer. Our last glimpse of the team was during the last World Cup in 2002, where they performed better than expected. They got through the qualifying stages, beating Portugal (fantastic result) and Mexico, but losing to Poland and drawing with South Korea (less good). Since then everyone seems to have lost interest.

I wonder whether the US will have to start getting more interested in the game before the team gets good, or if it will work the other way round - the US will win something and then the nation will fall in love with the game?
