There was a time in my life when I thought that rapists of all stripes should ideally get the death penalty. I became less severe as I got older, lost some of my 'sacred' view of sex and realized that if efficiently executed, that would kill enough men to significantly change society as we know it.

My reasons for opposing capital punishement now have little to do with the crime itself. I agree that certain acts revoke your right to life, including taking another life deliberately or rape. However realistically speaking our justice system is capable of producing false positives and I don't feel comfortable having capital punishment as a potential end to someone wrongly convicted.

As for the country comparison thing. That is just rhetoric, it is what makes him a good lawyer... unfortunately.

Oh, did I not clarify that I think rape, as a rule, should be punishable by death?

I'd err on the side of killing rapists:

Had a neat idea that I was rather fond of. I have no delusions about protecting gender balance or the status quo. Kill 'em all.

Why I'm anti-death penalty: rottenfruit January 5 2008, 17:13:20 UTC
I believe in mercy, rehabilitation, and the fallibility of the justice system.
