I can't understand why they torture new doctors with crazy hours.
Here, a change has been proposed in the hours residents are allowed to work. "In 2003 they moved to limit resident hours to 80 hours a week. Until then, some were regularly working up to 120 hours a week. The (new) plan recommends that first-year residents be limited to 16-hour shifts, and those in the second year and above work continuously for no more than 24 hours. They can stay an additional four hours to facilitate patient handoffs to another doctor. Currently residents are allowed to work up to 30-hour shifts".
