PICTURE POST CATCH UP: last day with pepper and smith, dog trip, a visit from liz prince, a visit from welch, scranton zine fest, epic fog, garden update, a visit from mouthwash, scenes from around the house, a visit from mikey, an outdoor workout, and south philly bowling
i love pictures of clothes hung up to dry. an expanded view of my closet.
last day with pepper and smith. i watched them for a month in the time while i was waiting for my full-time nanny job to start
fingerpaintin
just loungin on the patio, spraying babies with a hose - you know, what i get paid to do.
pepper looks so tough here. she's rad! so smart and opinionated. a little firecracker. she'll take the world by storm.
she's also beautiful!
taking the dogs to the cemetary, because it's really big and fenced in. a great place to run.
ryan, sarah and dodger move to new york in mid-august. i'm sure rover will miss having a dog pal around.
hey guys
a few weeks ago liz prince came to visit, which means good group hangs and a trip to su xing house, probably my favorite place to eat in philly so far
liz and karen
trying to figure out where to go with the impending epic rain that was about to roll in
we just went back to the bookhouse, where cody, kettner, john and monica live.
the following day i was determined to get a lot done. welch came into town the night before to visit my roommate sarah, but sarah had to work most of the day friday. so welch just helped me get things done all day. it was really nice of him!
we took some time out for govindas of course.
the following day, welch rolled out and my housemates, karen and i headed to scranton for the first scranton zine fest.
it was small and cute, just as we had expected.
my roommate sarah volunteers at the wooden shoe. that's actually how i met her! she was tabling for the shoe at the portland zine symposium last year.
most zine tablers were our friends from philly actually... haha.
i fell asleep on the car ride home (because when don't i do that?) and i woke up to this extremely dense fog that had rolled in over PA. very strange to wake up to.
we stopped for gas and took some silly photos to take advantage of the cool backdrop.
that's ryan, karen and sarah
whoa.. haha
we also stopped at vegan treats in bethlehem on the way home. it was my first time in the actual store! if you're not from the east coast, vegan treats is a decadent bakery in PA that supplies to most coffeeshops and restaurants in the area. when we lived in baltimore, bands would often tour through from PA and would bring our house a box of vegan treats from time to time as a gift.
delish
we came home and some folks came over to eat baked goods and watch date night... ha
a lazy sunday hangout at the bookhouse. liz was still in town but i had been feeling really anti-social and not up for group hangs. so i turned down monica's 80s dance party on a boat, and some trips to the beach, and the diner. i owed liz a good hang, but was sort of glad when it was low key.
we just hung around and got burritos
our front yard garden is looking great! i snapped this photo two weeks ago and now those tomato plants are staked and almost as tall as i am. so much nicer than when that whole space was filled with one giant hedge.
i plan to make a raised bed planter box against the house for greens, nice and shady. i was going to do it before i went out of town but was feelign so unmotivated and weird for some reason.
being anti-social means my comic pages are coming along nicely. i just finished page 23! my friend karen is helping me re-build my website and it will be done in a little over a week. then i'll be posting a page or two of this comics series every week.
my friend matt came to visit since his family lives outside of philly. he was someone i hung out with all the time and went to most shows with in chicago. we worked hard on starting a collective before i moved called diy chicago, with the eventual goal of opening an all ages, diy, collectively run venue in chicago. i'm really happy that it's still going strong after i moved. they've raised close to two grand and just finished writing the by laws for official 501c3 non profit status. baby steps.
we went to jim shomo's bday show. i love handwritten punk house signs.
cody and carol's band, rowsdower, played with some help from jon too. they played 19 fun cover songs.
some scenes from around the house
i've spent a lot of sunny afternoons drawing on my rooftop. it's a nice quiet drawing spot free from distraction.
with nice sunsets too
before my vacation i had to work 10 out of 11 days! i think this contributed a lot to my feeling restless/unmovitated/antisocial. but i did fit in a good day of coffeeshop drawing.
and a nutrition seminar at my gym
and a long inspired conversation over coffee with frances about being young and creative and never really feel like you're doing enough even though you're spending all your time working hard on things you care about
my one day off, a quiet lazy sunday hang out with todd
and a visit from mikey who drove up from dc to hang out
we just walked to get tofu hoagies and then watched twin peaks. my roommate ryan's part time dog, bonnie, was also visiting
ryan showing off todd's shirt
after work the following day, mikey and i walked to get coffee at satellite
then we had some nice rooftop real talk
and watched another rom com, a repeat of what we did the night before. haha.
i added some lights to my studio space, and made more room for pages
my studio finally feels 'done.' a great room for productivity.
an outdoor workout at my gym. the guy running is my pal jordan. it's fun having a friend at my crossfit gym.
i finally made myself go do something social in a group right before i went out of town! south philly bowling
i'm very bad at bowling...
cody, peter and kettner
kettner had a signature move of sliding on the ground. it seemed to be effective because he was really good! he blew all of us away, except for peter, who was equally good.
karen's cute profile
phew! finally caught up again, at least until this weeks photos from when i went out of town. i keep getting behind on photo posts. i'm going to try to be better about it.
