PICTURE POST: sleepover pool party camp out at todd's parents house in NJ, fourth of july in west philly, a visit from amy leigh, and clitfest in DC

i got back from my trip to michigan/chicago and the very next day rode out to new jersey with all my friends, including my roommate dodger, who embarrassingly insisted on wearing these sunglesses that were too big for him. i told him that style went out with 2004.

we saw this on the way, because philly is cool

before i went to michigan i was feeling like i really needed to be out of the city and in nature. i'm glad that when i came back i got a dose of it right outside of philly too.

we were all going to todd's parent's house in NJ for a sleepover campout pool party for amy k's birthday! amy k is the gal on the left in this photo. she rules.

kettner just learned that he'll be going to grad school in CA in one month! he was sort of freaking out. we are all very sad that he won't be around. they should retire a kettner chair at grindcore house in his honor. that's where he sits all day drawing comics, every day.

the big surprise was that todd, briton, jon and chelsea formed a band and learned amy k's top ten favorite songs for her birthday! it was super cute.

then we lit a fire

and went swimming

that's amy k and todd

we had vegan smores and ice cream cake

rover got to come too. i think it was his first night sleeping outside since i got him! as far as i can remember.

basically, this night was so good. so far i've planned both of my vacations accidentally so i come back to some epic philly get together and there's no way it wouldn't confirm how much i like living here.

that's jon and monica. monica sang a kesha song as part of the cover band!

i didn't even use a tent! i slept right outside with a few other people. we fell asleep listening to 3am AM radio, coast to coast.

in the morning, smoothies were made

todd used to have shows in this barn in the early 2000's. a lot of people have told me their band played there. it's tiny though!

amy k and nick lee (and my roommate ryan floating in the background!)

rover got a lot of attention. kettner even confessed that he doesn't like dogs but he likes rover - this is one of rover's most frequent compliments. converting cat people the world over.

we stopped at wa wa and ran into amy k and nick lee and their pal who's name i dont' remember

the following day was a serious catch up day at grindcore house

followed by a wholefoods wall sit. that's where everyone goes to just sit outside and loiter.

this guy took our photo

see?

here's my nanny baby! his name is asher so i call him smasher. one of my nicknames is rampage. i figure smasher and rampage is a pretty excellent wrestling team.

he's getting really big. i used to be able to hold him with one hand and his head would sit right in my armpit. haha.

just a picture from my studio

on the 4th of july i ate dinner in a park with karen and peter

and then we tried to write things with sparklers. i tried to write the word 'tite' but i wasn't fast enough. so i made a heart. booooring.

karen made x's, which i wish i had thought of

then we met up with a huuuuge crew at drexel park, which overlooks the whole city

i counted. there were 40 of us, including 10 foreigners from australia and sweden

joanna is patriotic. ryan is disgusted.

joanna's heart

karen's rover portrait

around the house - our garden exploded. all the plants are huge. here's me in it for scale.

my roommate ryan started a band called must be nice. they practice a lot. it's fun to listen to. they just had their first show yesterday. this is them after band practice.

amy leigh got to town a few days later from toronto. we're long distance bff's.

we got a huge bag of cheap chinese food from lucky's and walked through the baltimore stroll (a $1 night on baltimore ave where shops put out deals/food for a dollar and everyone strolls along the sidewalks)

and had dinner on our stoop

last friday we all headed down to dc for clitfest, a lady punk/diy music fest. nick, karen, joanna, amy and i went.

fortunately the downpours broke just long enough to take a visit to the delaware house rest stop

it was grey and we kept accidentally listening to podcasts abut funerals? bum out.

but then we were in dc and things were good!

we only missed one or two bands (sorry carni) but caught everyone else! this is katie playing in bad banana. they're who i went on tour with this spring.

aye nako, one of my favorites right now

lemuria. sheena rules! i'm hoping to ride down to the fest with them this year.

after the show we all went out for vegan jumbo slices

they were huge.

then we went back to crash at shira's. we were all wearing short shorts so we took this silly photo

one of shira's catmates

first stop of saturday was coffee at qualia and then food at everlasting life. so delicious.

then, like a bad feminist, i skipped workshops to draw for 6 hours in sticky fingers

other's joined me in and out throughout the day

mikey looking like he thinks he's cool as shit

this is catvet from philly. they're some of my new favorite philly folks, which you'll see in my next picture post.

hot mess' last show and the only stage dive of the weekend

post-show hang out

that's shira, our host for the weekend and an organizer of clitfest

sunday breakfast at shira's

jordan and shira made us french toast, potatoes and coffee!

shira's cat

more coffee so soon, at peregrine, with amy leigh

oh, and then back for more coffee, with jen, mikey and brian

ms. sheena. babe

sheena and amy leigh

carni, dc's favorite

the ambulars, which is jen and mikeys' band.

jen is the raddest. she lives in chicago. we were zine fest organizers together, thus spent tonnnnnnnns of time working on projects and going to meets together. that girl rules and so does her band. unfortunately most of her band lives on the east coast so they don't play often. check out the ambulars.

mikey and jen

shira, emily and amy leigh. emily is from philly but i just met her that weekend. she's funny. i'm excited to hang with her.

we were driven home by devin, who used to live in philly but now lives in new orleans. it was super nice of him to give us a ride!

long distance bff's!
