I agree SO MUCH with your Korra thoughts (and your thoughts on endings too! They are definitely really important!). I enjoyed the Amon and Tarrlok's backstory part as well, but I definitely think it had that "too little, too late" twinge to it)...and, gah, the Mako and Korra thing just boiled down to "main guy, main girl" and it was like the writers felt no need to develop it beyond that. I couldn't stand it...especially since Mako as a character just sort of crashed and burned by the end! It was like they wanted us to like him without giving us a reason to, despite making him a jerk in regards to the love triangle. It was really bizarre (he also had, like, NO development beyond being Korra's Love Interest...it was so odd). I hated how the ending approached the whole issue of Korra's Avatar State and her airbending. She didn't learn/earn the ability to airbend, and she didn't learn to be spiritual...at least we saw Aang training to learn all of the elements. O_O; It was like they just needed a convenient way for her to get to ( ... )

Yeah, Mako's whole character is definitely very...bizarre. Seriously what is even the point of him other than to be Korra's Love Interest (and make people rage)? xD;;; Why does she even need a love interest? :( We're just sort of told/forced to accept that he's so awesome in all ways when he really...isn't ( ... )

You've pretty much touched upon all of the reasons I literally cannot stomach Mako anymore. He seemed more like a trophy than a character in the end, and he was a massive, unbearable piece of shit to Asami. I want to fucking strangle him. He has A LOT of redeeming to do in Season 2. I honesty do hope that he does redeem himself, because I dislike him more than I dislike Jet (by far my least favorite character) from ATLA. At least that series acknowledged that Jet's behavior was unacceptable (though his behavior wasn't even the reason I disliked him, but it helped that he wasn't seen as a saint regardless.) Mako needs to be knocked down by like a million pegs. It'd do Korra some good in terms of character-development to call him out on some of his bullshit, too ( ... )

Yep, he's so unbearable I literally wanted to gag at all his scenes in the finale, ugh. DX I don't really have much hope they will attempt to redeem him in the second season considering the way they handled him in the first one, but yeah, he desperately needs it. D: I'd really like to see him honestly own up to all of his shit and actually apologize to everyone instead of constantly blaming it on others/avoiding the subject, and yeah, Korra needs to realize what he's doing too. >_>; lol, I actually didn't mind Jet that much. He's definitely a much better character compared to Mako at least, because as you said, the story didn't try to sugarcoat his actions and portray him as some sort of saint ( ... )
