"It's not looting if you're white."

(More information here in this Salon.com article)

Ahhh, yes. Reminds me of the good old days, when starving people were jailed for stealing bread.

Now people wonder why today's society has gone to hell in a handbasket. It just makes me mad to know that honest people would go to a new low just for food and water. Seems like the state of LA is "draggin' ass" in the relief effort.

Hi there, you don't know me, er, well actually you do, or did...Let me start again...I saw a post from you in my friend aneyi's journal and I instantly recognized you. You taught my English 102 class at Murray State in either 1999 or 2000. I'm sure you remember me as I was one of the only people who ever spoke up in class. I was/am the really tall fat guy who wrote the paper on rock music not being responsible for kids' bad behavior. You gave me a B+ on it and said something like "I was looking forward to reading your paper and it did not disappoint." I never forgot that. Anyway, I've recently come back to LJ after a long hiatus and I thought I would say hello and ask if I could add you to my friends' list. I also wanted to say thanks for that class you taught...I learned a lot, not the least of which was that professors can often be really cool folks. I always enjoyed coming to your class and I hope you're finding success at the school you're at now. Anyway, that's about it...See you in the funny papers ( ... )

Wow. Yes, I remember you. Quite vividly.

What are you up to these days?

Your kinds words about my teaching are much appreciated. These days I'm working at Bethel College and enjoying teaching more than ever.

You're added. :)

I'm not up to a whole lot unfortunately. I graduated from the University of Louisville in 2003 (I transferred there from Murray in '02; that's where I'm from and I was not happy with Murray and wanted to be closer to home). I have a BA in English but I am currently unemployed. I have floated around from one job to the next but I'm still not sure what I want to do. I am thinking of going back for a masters in library science, but even that's up in the air. Right now I'm just trying to find something to pay the bills and get me out of my parents' house =( I'm sure you can relate to the liberal arts' student's curse: study what you like but jobs are almost impossible to find ( ... )
