I can understand the hostility but it just shows that people don't understand why those scholarships are there. It's not anti-white. They're established to help groups that have/are having hard times. Scholarships and cultural programs help integrate groups. Shit like this scholarship shows that it's just going ot be harder for those groups to be integrated.

would it not be easier to integrate purely on merit and need as ooposed to need and race?

see there. You don't get it. Yes that'd be nice. However there are so many obstacles to that. Obstacles based on gender, ethnicity, etc... In order to get those people around those obstacles you have these organizations. You can say it's unfair but that would be ignoring that most of the time it's unfair to not be white in this country.

Pulling the reality card, eh. This reminds of Claunch's argument in Urban Issues. I'd go more into it, but I'm having to debate this also with my mom on the phone...and she's making some racist remarks. I don't like that.

What they need is a scholarship for a white guy who simply can't afford college. The White Trash scholarship or something. The United Anglo College Fund. Really, though, people don't realize there are oodles of scholarships out there with arbitrary rules, like "If you are 6'2 1/2" you get fifty dollars." We don't need this scholarship. And does anyone want to be known as the guy who got the Whites-only scholarship? Dude, I'd get my ass kicked.

hell, I can't even legitally apply for it w/o denying my heritage. But what we lack in the White Trash Scholarship, we make up for w/ the Football and other sport scholarships.

Forgot about that. I guess you're right. The football scholarship is the white trash scholarship in disguise.

As far as I'm concerned, minority scholarships, BET, the NAACP, Miss Black America, anything that specifically is geared toward any race is racially discrimintory, and whether or not THEORETICALLY they do as the Daniel says, they are illegal, and should be dismantled....
BTW - I tried to join the NAACP, and was turned down, and refunded my membership dues "due to the fact that [my] family background does not support [their] platform."
