She was the most honest in the dark, and he remembered the times she would whisper about changing the world, the long nights after she lost their child (and another, and another) when she murmured about the hollowness.
It wasn’t any different this time around; curled around her in the dark, his hand rubbing slow circles on the slight swell of her stomach, he listened as she wondered if she could do it. He’s the only one who knows that she’s breakable, but in the dark, he thinks he can shield her. He won’t let her break this time.
