Two independent yet connected drabbles.

Characters: Andy/Toby
Rating: Pea.gee
A/N: Damn you, Bobby Fleh.

The first time they had met, Toby had been accompanying his candidate to a lecture. Not surprisingly, it hadn’t gone well. A ten-minute Q&A with Poly-Sci under-grads so wet behind the ears they actually had gills, and his guy was already on the ropes. It was going to be a long campaign.

After, as he walked slowly to his car shedding his jacket in the too-warm night he realized, quite suddenly, that those same under-grads were driving cars worth two and three times his Dodge Dart. It was going to be an excruciatingly long campaign.

That’s when he saw her.

He could tell she was tall even as she crouched next to a backpack filled with textbooks, newspapers and what looked like seventeen pairs of shoes. She tossed out sandals and, rising smoothly, stepped into them while simultaneously tipping her head back to gather a wild tangle of red hair, securing it up and away from her slim neck.

Toby’s mouth twitched, hiding a smile. “Hello,” he greeted quietly, pointing to his car, trying not to alarm her.

“Hey,” she returned brightly. She hesitated, considered, but then couldn’t quite resist. “Your guy’s a schmuck, you know that right? But...um...nice speech.”
