Right. Remember my digital camera, from the last post? I take it with me wherever I go, if there's any hope of interesting wildlife or scenery. Today in the ravine, there was. This took place in the form of ducks, a kingfisher, several frogs, and a caterpillar. At least I assume it's a caterpillar.The thing is, all logical google searches indicate ( Read more... )

As I've read, caterpillars tend to change their shape considerably during their growth.

What kind of trees were in its area?

Also, it sort of reminded me of a millipede, but millipedes are longer and have longer legs.

Yeah, it really has that segmented body thing going on. But its legs definitely looked caterpillarish.

I really couldn't say what trees were around, though. I'm not that observant, nor am I very good at tree identification. anything besides 'maple' is getting a bit too obscure for me. :P

Way cool!!!

It was quite easy actually... I just googled "black caterpillar", found a gardening forum, made a pic search, and the little guy showed up.
