Arwen and I went to see President Ramos-Horta give one of the most inspiring speeches I've ever heard at Sydney Uni this evening

Definitely a voice to throw underwear at - and such a sense of humour, too.

I had the great fortune to see a documentary about him called The Diplomat at the Sydney Film Festival back in 2000. He was there for a Q&A after the screening, and this guy is a total dude. You can sense his overwhelming intellect and his extraordinary patience and diplomacy just by hearing him speak.

But let me tell you, don't ever get on this guy's bad side. There was a part in the doco about new violence that had erupted out due to the Indonesian-backed militias, and he lost it big-time, and it was captured in the film. It was really interesting to see a guy so thoroughly contained really express his anger.

A fascinating guy...
