Once when my cat was a kitten, he jumped into the filled bathtub out of curiosity, and hopped back out so quickly on his paws got wet. I would NEVER attempt a bath for him, but I did try to give him children's Benadryl once for a cold he got at the vet. Also inadvisable.
I wash my cat by putting some water in a really big cooking pot in a deep sink (kitchen, usually), then putting the cat in the pot and run the faucet over her to get the water everywhere.
