And you did it? I've always heard the "magic plates" and "super solutions" they sell on late night TV were an expensive packaging of this method, but I'm too poor to own silver, so I could never try it.

I did it. Em inherited a nice silver bowl which had been laying about.

It took a few dips and some scrubbing which I'll chalk up to age and neglect. (Either that or I totally managed to screw up the redox and the dip did nothing, but I don't think it's that easy to scrub off tarnish so I think it worked.)

What do people do with silver anyway? All I can think is to put wrapped candies in it.

I think people mostly use it to impress their guests. "Oh, that? _That_ old thing?" Oh, just something I inherited from my great-great-uncle, Fuerst Claudius von Random-Walker IV. Perhaps you studied him in your charming little peasant-school."

I dunno. You could keep beef jerky in it. Next time I visit I'd like that.
