It worked, I think. I just didn't understand why she was gonna do him in too unless it was a case of 'well why not?' I guess it was the plot I didn't understand?
He was a loose end. And it wasn't so much a case of necessarily killing him, as just making sure he wasn't going to say anything. It's a signal to the reader that there is still some feeling between the two of them, it's just beyond hope.
